In Wexford town, in the southeast corner of Ireland, walked Viking Settlers, Norman Knights, Cromwellian Roundheads and Irish Rebels, our town of Soldiers and Sailors, Pirates and Prisoners, Monks and Martyrs awaits you! In 150AD the Greek Chartographer, Ptolemy’s, mentions Wexford on his world map. Around 892 the Vikings settled in ‘Weisfiord’, the discovery of the outline of a wooden Viking house, enabled a replica to be built at Ferrycarrig National Heritage Park.
The Anglo Normans first landed in Co Wexford in 1169, changing the course of Irish History, parts of their wall begun in the 1300’s, circles the town today. The towns motto, ‘Through fire and water’ depicts Three Burning Ships reminding us of the many massacres in our town, the most horrific being that of Cromwell’s, in 1649. The American War of Independence’ sowed the seeds of Liberty in Ireland, failed rebel leaders were executed on Wexford Bridge. In 1918, Wexford Harbour was a sea plane base for the US Air Force operating towards the end of World War 1.

We view six from the outside, but fill you in on the inside, so you can return later! One tavern has GAA origins, another the scene of at least two known murders, another a 'keyhole' bar, with several having resident ghosts!
